A few months ago we reported how Prince Charles had been photographed sitting astride a classic British Brompton folding cycle. Well, it looks like they’ve been talking bikes in ‘the Family’, because his dad, the Duke of Edinburgh, was recently a guest of Brompton at its West London factory.
As one of only two mainstream cycle makers still manufacturing in Britain, Brompton gave Prince Philip a tour of the company’s facilities, with company boss Will Butler-Adams and Brompton inventor Andrew Ritchie MBE acting as guides.
Ritchie in particular is already well known to the Duke, having been awarded the Prince Philip Designer’s Prize last October. And Brompton as a company isn’t short on royal accolades either, having won two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in the last year.
Now, if only they made a tandem version it could be an ideal wedding present.Like Cycling Active´s content? Subscribe to our magazine and you will be able to access our latest comprehensive content!
